This highly interactive workshop will emphasize the fundamentals of public participation and designing an effective engagement process. Training begins with 2‐3 hours of pre‐work completed via distance, followed by a day‐long face‐to‐face workshop. Skills learned are applicable to any topic where public input and engagement is desired to inform community-based decision-making.

Workshop Description

This highly interactive workshop will emphasize the fundamentals of public participation and designing an effective engagement process. Training begins with 2‐3 hours of pre‐work completed via distance, followed by a day‐long face‐to‐face workshop.

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how public engagement can be used to develop effective public health policy and programs
  • Plan an engagement process suited to a given situation

Skills learned are applicable to any topic where public input and engagement is desired to inform community-based decision-making. Registrants are asked to bring a brief description of a situation or issue about which they would like to engage the public. During this training, participants will develop a plan for engaging the intended audience in dialogue about this issue. Participants without a practice example of their own will use a scenario provided. (For a definition of public engagement, click here.) Examples used will include those from experiences in using public engagement to inform local public health planning activities.

Audience

This workshop is recommended for anyone who plans or facilitates community engagement events. The workshop, Facilitating for Engagement, or other basic facilitation training, is recommended as a pre-requisite for this workshop.

The cost of this workshop is $90.00.  Upon completion of the registration process, you will have the opportunity to print an invoice, which should be submitted with your payment. Or, you may pay by credit card. Lunch will be provided.
