The 67th Annual Summer Institute in Survey Research Techniques at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is offering a one week course on Focus Groups taught by Richard Krueger and Mary Ann Casey July 7-11 in the afternoons 1:30-5:30 this summer 2014. The course is an introduction to the skills necessary to conduct focus groups, including planning, recruiting, hosting, moderating, developing questions, analyzing, and reporting. The course will include daily lecture and opportunities to practice skills. Focus groups are a great way to understand issues, pilot test ideas, and evaluate programs. They also provide great insight when used in combination with surveys. Focus groups have been used to help design surveys, to pilot test surveys, and to understand survey findings. Take this course if you want to learn more about how focus groups might add to your research toolbox.
